Tadimalla did not name the party leaders in her letter, but she said that they were “actively helping and supporting” C Alagappan, who allegedly “duped her of her property, money and documents.”

Tadimalla said that Alagappan had approached her around 20 years ago, when she was vulnerable and isolated, and insinuated himself and his family into her life under the guise of a caring elder person.

She said that she had entrusted Alagappan with the sale and documents of several of her lands, and it was just recently that she discovered he had defrauded her of the same.

Tadimalla’s resignation is a major blow to the BJP, which is trying to expand its reach in Tamil Nadu. The party has been criticized for its handling of the economy and the COVID-19 pandemic, and Tadimalla’s allegations against party leaders are likely to damage its image further.
