The Pittsburgh Steelers are riding high with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson as the starter this weekend, as they welcome Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Sunday night.

That’s what former NFL wide receiver and current analyst DJ Houshmandzadeh had to say on Fox Sports’ The Facility today.

“I’m told he’s 100% starting… Russell Wilson is the starter,” Houshmandzadeh said.

If this is the move the Steelers make, it’s certainly an interesting one.

Former first-round pick Justin Fields’ play keeps the team atop the AFC North at 4-2.

Fields has recorded 10 total touchdowns and just one interception in his six games.

But head coach Mike Tomlin is in this business for a reason.

He knows football and clearly trusts Wilson.

As for Wilson, he hasn’t played since his time in Denver ended last season.

He threw 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 2023, and Pittsburgh looks to have a better offense on paper this year than Denver had last year, perhaps finding some success in the former Super Bowl champion Steel City.

It also helps that Pittsburgh has an elite defense.

However, the decision to bring him back in a prime-time matchup against Aaron Rodgers and a hungry Jets team is more interesting.

Does he still have the ability to be elite in big moments?

Fans will get the answer to that question this Sunday night.
